The Battle of Telecom Giants: T-Mobile US Leads Overall, Verizon Excels in 5G

The fastest 5G download speeds and the highest proportion of time connected to 5G services among T-Mobile users in the United States are found in the District of Columbia, as reported by Opensignal.

In a recent mobile experience survey, T-Mobile US has emerged as the frontrunner, surpassing its main competitors.

In the latest mobile experience survey conducted by Opensignal, T-Mobile US has emerged as the top performer among its main competitors. However, when it comes to 5G, Verizon has secured more wins across various categories.

Verizon received five awards in 5G from Opensignal, while T-Mobile earned two and AT&T none. Verizon notably surpassed T-Mobile in 5G upload speed, a category where T-Mobile had previously led. The data for this report was collected between mid-March and mid-June.

T-Mobile maintained its position as the leader in 5G download speed, with twice the speed of Verizon and 2.4 times that of AT&T. All three carriers showed improvement in their speeds compared to last year.

T-Mobile also won in the category of 5G availability, highlighting the extensive coverage of its network. It emphasized its coverage of 326 million people across 2 million square miles, surpassing AT&T and Verizon combined. Additionally, T-Mobile’s ultra-capacity 5G, operating on mid- and high-band spectrum, covers 275 million people and aims to expand to 300 million by the year’s end.

While T-Mobile did not secure the top spot in real 5G leadership according to Opensignal’s data, it dominated the broader mobile experience report. T-Mobile won six out of eight categories in that report, demonstrating its strength in download and upload speed experience.

T-Mobile expressed its satisfaction with the results, positioning itself as the overall network and technology leader in wireless. Ulf Ewaldsson, President of Technology at T-Mobile US, highlighted the company’s commitment to delivering innovations and improving capabilities for its customers.

In summary, T-Mobile US showcased strong performance in the broader mobile experience report but faced tougher competition from Verizon in various 5G categories, including upload speed. Both carriers demonstrated improvements in their 5G speeds, benefiting the industry as a whole.
